Hindi film about Mumbai shown at Cannes

Aditi Singh, a Hindi short film that’s an ode to Mumbai, by India-born, Franco-Swiss director Mickhel Kummer, has been selected for the Cinefoundation competition at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

Shot on location in local trains, at Princess Street and Mumbai University, it’s about Aditi, (theatre actor and model Vandita Vasa) a 19-year-old secretary at Mumbai University, who gets romantically involved with overseer Rajiv Kumar (Rajeev Mishra).

When she asks him to get engaged, Rajiv refuses, thus beginning a secret exchange of letters that drives the film.

Edited by hand, Aditi Singh depicts how Mumbaikars are caught between tradition and modernity.
