Lingerie in Null Bazaar

Now, we have lingerie that not only looks good, but smells good too. At Null Bazaar’s flower market, florist Junaid Khan (30) specialises in undergarments made out of flowers. With almost three-dozen women’s lingerie sets sold since he struck upon this novel idea three months back, Khan is hoping that his flowery venture blossoms.

In September, when Khan learnt about his ex-girlfriend’s marriage, he wished he could gift her something memorable. “Then I saw Lage Raho Munnabhai. I was very impressed by the way Munnabhai used flowers to get his point across,” said Khan. So, he decided to gift his ex a lingerie set made out of flowers.

He was also influenced by a fashion show. “I came across a chocolate-wardrobe fashion show on FTV, and started wondering why I couldn’t make lingerie out of fresh flowers,” he added.

Price range

The price range for this one-time-use lingerie set depends on how elaborate and big it is. “The majority of the orders are for special occasions like anniversaries, birthdays, weddings, and sometimes from a boyfriend to his girlfriend.

The prices range between

Rs 500, Rs 800, Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,200. We have sold close to 40 sets so far to customers all over Mumbai,” said Khan.

Said Salim Malik, a worker, “We require three hours of delicate handiwork to complete a single lingerie set. The open-ended thread-hook at the ends of the bra and panty ensures that the size is slightly flexible.”

Better than the best

Once the customer specifies the size, the framework for the bra and panty is prepared with  white thread. The base of the lingerie is made of tajar (buds of sadabahaar flower), which are then embellished with Jerbera, an orange-petalled flower, in the centre and Orchids at the seams.

“I love creating new things out of flowers, and such innovations and handiwork are possible only in India. Even Holland, which is known to be the world’s flower market haven, can’t match the intricate work on garlands and bouquets that we do,” concluded Khan.
